Testimonials

Sylvia Dickert – Vulva Cancer Survivor

I initially discovered a wart-like growth in my vagina in June 2019. A gynaecologist shrugged it off, but as it continued to grow and cause me discomfort I decided to get a second opinion.

That led Me to Dr Karolia who diagnosed me with Cancer stage lb after performing a biopsy. I was shocked and downhearted, to say the least.

I was then referred to Dr Wethmar who immediately arranged a Radical Vulvectomy with Bilateral Lymphadenectomy. This was major surgery and naturally, I was traumatised and very afraid.

Dr Wethmar was extremely positive and encouraging during this stressful time, which enabled me to respond well to both the invasive, major surgery and my recovery.

Unfortunately, I was one of the rare patients who developed a skin cellulite infection after surgery and had to be readmitted to the hospital for 7 days. Throughout this ordeal, Dr Wethmar was wonderfully supportive and both she and her assistant Angela guided me through the recovery process with great dedication and care.

Although I will still have to carry out regular 6 monthly check-ups in future, for now, I am currently CANCER FREE. I wish to express my heartfelt love and thanks to Drs. Karolia and Wethmar who have supported me throughout this ordeal and to whom I owe my CANCER FREE STATUS

Thembi Mahlangu- Vulva Cancer Survivor

After several months of unknown pain, on the 28th of June 2016 I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer located in the vulva area, I was informed to go start with chemo and hope for the best, “good-luck if you make it, they said”.

I met Dr Elize Wethmar and that was my hope, I needed to go to immediate surgery as my cancer was spreading, I looked at my kids and knew no matter what happened I needed to fight, my grandson asked me will I ever be able to play soccer with him, I couldn’t answer without tears rolling down my eyes, faith is all I had.

I went into a 6 hour operation on the 02 July 2016, not knowing if that would be the last time, I saw my kids. 6 hours later I was wheeled out of theatre into ICU, I saw my kids standing out the theatre door and I knew I had made it, after several months of pain and sorrow, being told I wasn’t going to make it, I was finally cleared, I could not believe my ears when Dr Elize Wethmar told me that they managed to remove everything, I could finally look at my grandson and tell him I will be able to play soccer with him.

2018 I had to go for a total abdominal hysterectomy, I didn’t mind at all because I knew that would be the last straw.

4 years later I can stand tall and say I am Thembi Mahlangu, a 50-year-old female and I am a cancer survivor. We are often told or made to believe that cancer is the end but today I am here to tell you I beat cancer so can you because we have God on our side, He gave strength and knowledge to doctor Wethmar and who installed all the hope I thought I had lost. I am a proud cancer survivor.

Retha Groenewald – Ovarian Cancer Survivor

I cannot thank God enough for Dr Wethmar. She’s the best by far. Tomorrow will be 6 months ago that I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer (Neoplasm of the Ovaries).

After the CT scan, Dr Wethmar explained the procedure and she was totally honest with me. I could see the worry in her eyes, but I knew, I was in the best hands with her.

One thing I will never forget when she said to me that this will be the fight for my life and we will work together as a team. Dr Wethmar visited me in ICU every day. Being in ICU during the lockdown and not able to see my kids was the worst for me.

Dr Wethmar told me on one of her visits to me, that the operation went well and looked good, I cried and she asked me why I’m crying, and I said these tears are tears of joy.

I finished my last chemo session on the 17th of August and 3mnth follow up will be in October.

Thank you Dr Wethmar, ur simply the best. Thank God for your talent and guiding you everyday xx

Jacolette Ashton – Ovarian Cancer Survivor

On the 6th of February God placed an Angel, Dr. Wethmar on my path. I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer on the 29th of January and referred to her for my surgery. She was brutally honest during her consultation with me and that helped me to trust her 100% with my life. I walked out of her rooms knowing exactly what was waiting for me. Dr Wethmar’s compassion and the way she cared for me and about me will forever be edged in my heart. She checked up on me every day during my stay in hospital and encouraged me all the time – she was fighting the fight with me. I will be forever grateful to Dr Wethmar for saving my life.
