She completed her medical degree at the University of Pretoria, followed by an intensive two-year internship and a year of community service that cemented her dedication to healthcare. Her career trajectory led her to specialize in gynaecological oncology, with advanced training in minimally invasive surgery from India. Dr. Wethmar is also the founder of the East Rand Multi-Specialty Oncology Board, where she collaborates with experts to provide comprehensive treatment plans. Dr. Wethmar’s journey in medicine began at the University of Pretoria, where she earned her medical degree. Following her formal education, she completed a two-year internship in Bela Bela, coupled with a year of community service, during which she discovered her passion for women’s healthcare in South Africa. Her early career included 18 months in emergency medicine, which ultimately inspired her to specialize in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and later pursue a super-specialty in gynaecological oncology.
Her qualifications are extensive and include expertise in minimally invasive surgery, with advanced training (Fmas & Dmas) completed in India. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to tackle new challenges, Dr. Wethmar also holds an MPhil in Practical Theology, specializing in medical ethics.
As the founder and lead surgeon of the East Rand Multi-Specialty Oncology Board (ERMSOB), Dr. Wethmar leads a dedicated team of specialists. Together, they develop comprehensive surgical and oncological treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
Dr. Wethmar’s commitment to advancing medical knowledge is evident in her ongoing research projects, including studies on cancer in pregnancy (Pram SA) and the impact of Multi-Disciplinary Boards in South Africa.
Her dedication to her field is further reflected in her numerous professional memberships and contributions to medical literature. She is an active member of the European Society of Gynaecology (ESOG) and the South African Society of Gynaecologic Oncology (SASGO). Her insights have been featured in esteemed publications such as Fair Lady Magazine, Life Magazine, and the SASGO Journal. Dr. Wethmar has also shared her expertise at prominent conferences, including the National Congress of SASOG.
Currently practising privately at The Glynnwood Life Healthcare Hospital in Benoni, Dr. Elize Wethmar remains at the forefront of gynaecological oncology, continuously striving to improve the lives of her patients through compassionate care and cutting-edge treatment.

Founded by DR Elize Wethmar. It’s a collaborative multidisciplinary team of specialists who work together to provide comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for cancer patients in the East Rand area of Gauteng , South Africa.
Purpose of ERMSOB:
- To ensure patients receive well-rounded care by bringing together experts from various fields, including oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology, and medical ethics.
- To focus on patient centered care by creating personalized treatment plans for complex cancer cases.
- To improve outcomes for cancer patients through a collaborative approach.
The board is particularly active in addressing gynecological cancers, given Dr Wethmars’ specializations, but lightly extends its services to other types of cancers as well.
